It’s true, Angelenos love to eat so there’s no surprise that we’re always looking for the next best thing to get our greasy hands on. Once shied away from the limelight, Filipino food is now slowly and steadily making its way into the mainstream. With flavors that resonate with sweet, savory, and sour – sometimes prepared individually, but often times mixed together for a full force of flavor – the complex taste of Filipino cuisine is shaping the way Angelenos are eating with vinegar, pork fat, and spoons. At this year’s The Taste, an annual event for hundreds of food obsessed Angelenos, Jonathan Gold hosts a panel with Charles Olalia (Rice Bar), Gary Menes (le comptoir) and Alvin Cailan (EggSlut/UNIT120/AMBOY) to discuss the Flavors of LA in New Filipino cooking.
The weekend-long event takes place during Labor Day Weekend at Paramount Studios celebrating Los Angeles food with demonstrations, servings, and pours. Be sure to stop by our Downtown favorites: Badmaash, Cento Pasta Bar, Chicas Tacos, Faith and Flower, Gelateria Uli, Guisados, Knead Pasta Bar, Miro, Pitchoun, Simbal, The Springs, and Little Jewel of New Orleans.
